Formula One drivers normally do some simulator work before they go out onto the actual track. With Zandvoort being on a new track, most drivers would do sim work to gain knowledge about the circuit. However, Max Verstappen achieved pole position and revealed he didn’t spend any time behind the simulator.

The Dutch driver is over the moon getting pole position at his home race. What makes things make even more remarkable, that the Red Bull prodigy didn’t put any in the sim work.

Max Verstappen reveals his secret behind stellar qualifying session
As Verstappen set the fastest lap on the timesheet, many would have assumed that he had put in some serious hours behind the simulator. However, that isn’t the case, as he revealed that no time was invested in an exercise done by most F1 drivers.
Being asked by Andrew Benson from BBC about what he did right in the quali session, Max replied, “I didn’t so any simulator sessions before I got here. So I guess that was the key, normally I do quite a bit of simulator work.”

“And I have to say now, I also didn’t do for Spa. And I have to say that out of the box the car was actually quite okay. So I guess that is the secret,” Max concluded.

Can Max win from pole at his home race?
The Dutch Grand Prix weekend couldn’t have gotten to a better start for the Red Bull prodigy. Stating the race from the front of the grid, he had set his eyes on another victory this season in order to regain the lead in the title race.

However, Max is well aware that his arch-rival, Lewis Hamilton is just behind, and will throw everything but the kitchen sink at him to steal the lead from the very start of the race. So it is no surprise that the 23-year-old will do his level best to keep the 7-time world champion behind and take home the chequered flag.
