Tickets Prices Skyrocket for Inaugural Miami Grand Prix

In April, Formula 1 announced a second race in the United States for the 2022 season; the Miami Grand Prix. Both fans and drivers welcomed the news with open arms. But few eyebrows have been raised as the circuit is taking shape gradually. Yesterday, the tickets went on sale and fans weren’t exactly pleased with the way they were priced.
As reported by Jalopnik, the ticket prices range from the cheapest being $630 on the ‘Beach area’ all the way up to $2,000 for the ‘Start/Finish’ seats.
Even the most committed fans of the sport would confess that the tickets are quite expensive, but they should also look at last weekend’s race in Austin to make sense of the prices.

What does Miami have in store for the Grid?
The tickets for the Austin GP were priced between the range of $270 to $1500 dollars. Now, they are by no means ‘cheap’ as well, but in comparison, fans seemed to find the aforementioned price point far more digestible.

When compared side-by-side, the difference between Austin and Miami is considerable, but it should also be taken into consideration that the May 2022 race is an inaugural one, and would also require the construction of a brand new circuit.
According to race director Michael Massi, “It is a proper circuit. It’s far from a race in a car park. Far from it, considering the work that is going on there in a number of areas. The facility is coming along really, really well and it will be something unique”.
Growing Popularity of F1 in the US
Many possibilities presented themselves in Austin, like Red Bull finally putting an end to Mercedes’ domination, but the growing popularity of Formula 1 in the United States is something that seems like it’s here to stay.
The US is a country of motorsport enthusiasts, yet despite that, Formula 1 hasn’t been able to tap into the hearts and minds of the American viewer. But with constant efforts by teams and drivers along with elements like Drive To Survive and celebrity influences, Americans are finally responding to Formula 1.

A bright future for the second US GP
Despite the ticket prices, the anticipation and enthusiasm for the second US GP hasn’t been hampered, which is pretty clear from the fact that all the tickets sold out in the pre-sale only.
Now, this could’ve happened because of improper planning by the organizers, but the searing demand for tickets only goes to show that Americans are ready to embrace Formula 1 no matter the ‘price’.
