Brazil, one of the most historic F1 venues in the calendar, has witnessed some iconic racing over the years. Moreover, it is one of Lewis Hamilton’s favorite tracks to race on. The Mercedes driver raced from the back of the grid and won to keep his title hopes alive in the penultimate race of 2021.

Hamilton has been very open about his love for the South American country. However, Nelson Piquet Jr. had an interesting view about the same.

The Brazilian government announced that the English driver will receive the title of honorary citizen of Brazil. According to the Chamber of Deputies, the Mercedes driver confirmed his presence in the solemn session in the plenary. It will take place next Monday at 4 pm.

Lewis had written on his Instagram, “Today I was granted honorary citizenship to one of my favourite places in the world. I don’t really have the words right now. Thank you Brasil, I love you, I can’t wait to see you again.”

However, in another post’s comment section, Nelson Piquet Jr. questioned the Brazilian government’s decision and said, “Has he ever come to Brazil except for a race or hired to give a lecture? Have you come for a vacation? Get to know the Amazon that it depends so much? Time he has, plane too, why didn’t he come?”

Mercedes looked like it was competing with Red Bull for the first time this season. Hamilton finished 2nd behind Max Verstappen on the podium, his second consecutive P2 finish. Moreover, the former McLaren driver complimented the people at work in Brackley. Hamilton’s Mercedes teammate, George Russell, finished P4 behind home-favorite Sergio Perez.

Hamilton said after the Mexican GP, “Yes, there are a lot of good things to take away from this weekend. In addition, this is unquestionably the most competitive and best the car has felt all year.”
