What the FIA does with Red Bull is still to be seen. Rivals have been pushing for the FIA to take the strictest of actions against the Milton-Keynes-based outfit. However, would this deny Max Verstappen of his maiden World Championship? Even though the chances of this happening are slim, we’ve seen this happen before.
Remember when Usain Bolt lost his Gold Medal? As per gpblog.com, “Bolt, one of the most successful runners ever, lost his gold medal in 2017, which he won in the four hundred meters in Beijing in 2008. The reason was that another rider of the Jamaican team, Nesta Carter, was found guilty of doping.” (translated via Google Translate)
As things stand, there is no clarity as to what sanctions are to be levied on the Bulls for the cost cap breach. However, the FIA has outlined potential punishments that Red Bull can face at the discretion of the governing body.
What sanctions can Red Bull and Max Verstappen face due to the cost cap breach?
The ruling of the FIA has been clear with respect to Red Bull’s minor breach of the cost cap rules. However, what is left to be seen is what consequences does the FIA impose on Red Bull for the cost cap transgressions.

According to autosport.com, “In terms of the minor overspend, which is classified as being less than 5% over the limit that Red Bull has been found to have made, the Cost Cap panel can impose a financial penalty and/or a minor sporting penalty.”
But what is a minor sporting penalty? “These are a public reprimand, deduction of constructors’ championship points, deduction of drivers’ championship points, suspension from one or more stages of a competition (excluding the race), limitations on aerodynamic or other testing, or a reduction of the cost cap.”
