However, a certain American now looks in pole position to grab the seat ahead of the US GP.

After making his debut in an F1 car on his home track, Logan Sargeant could be getting another good news this weekend. Williams’ CEO and team boss Jost Capito dropped a huge hint regarding the American driver. Sargeant is currently third in the F2 driver’s standings and has impressed many with his performances this season. He is among the most exciting upcoming drivers currently.

One of the reasons thought to be delaying Williams’ imminent announcement is the American driver’s super license situation. Sargeant is still short of meeting the minimum threshold required to attain the license to drive in F1.

He needs to finish in the top five in the F2 championship to be eligible for the super license. Moreover, Jost Capito dropped a huge hint concerning the American driver. He was asked when he thinks an American driver could next be seen on the F1 grid during a fan Q&A on Friday. He replied, “Follow the news and you might see something on Saturday.”

Sargeant told Sky F1, “The way that the car reacts compared to what I’m used to in Formula 2 is massively different. Super reactive in the high-speed [corners] and so good on the brakes.”

He added, “But yeah, in general, it was a good, good run and I learned a lot. I was pretty shocked by how much power it had as well to start, so something to get used to, and it was tricky out there.”

The young American also added that he couldn’t acknowledge the crowd while driving because there was so much going through his mind. Logan is a member of the Williams academy and is currently P3 in the F2 championship.
