Raducanu entered the hard court Grand Slam as a qualifier. However, she stormed her way to the main draw with convincing victories. Although she had a good run in Wimbledon a few months back, very few expected her to achieve this much success in her first ever US Open.

Under the lights in the Arthur Ashe Stadium, the 18-year-old scored a stunning straight-sets upset over 17th seed Maria Sakkari in the semifinal. Prior to this, she defeated Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Belinda Bencic in the quarterfinals, again in straight sets.
