F1 Throwback: Lewis Hamilton Match One of Michael Schumacher’s Record at the 2017 Chinese GP

On this day, Lewis Hamilton gave us a phenomenal display of his prowess in Formula 1. He dominated the 2017 Chinese GP to take a memorable win. Hamilton’s win in China placed him along with F1 legend Micheal Schumacher for the record of ‘five wins at three different GPs’.

Additionally, He took the 3rd F1 Grand Slam victory of his career. He stood P1 in qualifying, lead every lap of the race and got the fastest lap of the race.

Lewis will go on to take three more Grand Slam wins, putting him second on the all-time tally. He now stands just 2 Grand Slams away from equalizing fellow Briton, Jim Clark for the top spot.

Lewis Hamilton started the race from pole and took the chequered flag

As the race started, Hamilton shielded his post quickly with a fast getaway at the beginning. He would remain unchallenged for the rest of the race duration. Whereas, Hamilton’s championship rival Sebastian Vettel had to defend an intense challenge from Bottas at turn 1.

Later, Bottas spun behind the safety car while attempting to warm his tires. Effectively dropping down to twelfth and was condemned by Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff. The race saw a lot of action in the middle field as Stroll spun after he made contact with Perez and Red Bull duo Riccardo and Verstappen put faster laps in an attempt to catch Lewis.

Despite their continuous efforts Hamilton led the pack and took the win. At one point, he was more than 10 seconds ahead of his closest rival. Lewis was followed by Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen in P2 and P3 respectively.

Additionally, his win in China tied the World Championship battle between Hamilton and Vettel.

The race was the 54th formula 1 win of Hamilton and his fifth triumph in the Chinese Grand Prix. Additionally, it was the 65th victory for Mercedes F1 in their 150th race.
