Japanese Giant Nintendo Baffles the Entire Community With a Bizarre Account-Linking Update

Nintendo is undoubtedly one of the most renowned gaming companies in the world. It provides shelter to top-grossing titles like the iconic Mario series, The Legend Of Zelda, Splatoon, and many more. Fans adore the franchise for its goofy nature and plethora of titles, as it always intrigues them before every game’s release.
Sadly, the Nintendo community has suffered from a major setback in the past few days as the franchise announced a terrible update for them. Their announcement involved account linking, something that fans loved the most about the franchise.

To give some insight, Nintendo previously allowed fans to login into all their games using different accounts like Facebook/Twitter, etc. However, the company has now announced its removal, leaving fans baffled.

Facebook and Twitter are two of the most used social media websites in today’s world. Apart from google, the majority use these accounts to sign in on different websites as it gets much easier for them to track. However, this not only extends to websites, as people also use these accounts to log in to different video games. For example, Call Of Duty allows players to log in through different ways, such as their Activision account, Facebook, guest, etc.

But that is not going to be the case for Nintendo users as the franchise has announced a terrible update. The Japanese giant confirmed that no user will be allowed to create/login into their Nintendo accounts via Facebook and Twitter on October 25. However, the franchise also stated that users can continue to log in using apple and google accounts, respectively.

“We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause to those who have been using a Facebook or Twitter account to sign in to their Nintendo Account. When using devices that you have already signed in to your Nintendo Account on, you may be able to use your Nintendo Account without signing in again,” Nintendo said while apologizing to the community.
As of 10/25/2022, it will no longer be possible to sign in to a Nintendo Account using a Facebook or Twitter account. We apologize for any inconvenience.

In addition to this news, the Japanese company also confirmed that users won’t get any “My Nintendo” points as a reward for linking their Nintendo Accounts. This will come into effect on the same day, as the discontinuation of account linking.
A look back in time!
August has been a terrible month for the franchise as its sales numbers tanked. They suffered a 23% decline compared to 3.43 million in Q2. The main reason for this was the Nintendo Switch, as the franchise suffered from a semiconductor shortage during production.
