Fear of Ferrari Preventing Charles Leclerc From a MotoGP Run

Scuderia Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc has revealed that he would like to give MotoGP a shot. The Monegasque revealed his love for the premier class of motorcycle racing but is doubtful of Ferrari giving their blessing.

Leclerc was asked the question while interacting in a Q&A session held by the Autosport International show. He responded by saying, “I would love to try MotoGP, but I am not sure Ferrari agrees. I need to ask but I would love to. Bikes, I love bikes in general, but I am not sure if Ferrari agrees for me to try a MotoGP bike,”

Charles Leclerc isn’t one to shy away from adventure. However, his recent exploits landed him in a spot of bother with Ferrari. A skydiving quest didn’t go down too well with the Maranello based outfit, who promptly reprimanded Leclerc.

Formula 1 drivers are restricted by clauses that limit what they can or cannot do when well-being is at risk. An ironclad contract protects the teams’ most prized assets and can be justified considering the time and resources put in. Leclerc recently extended his F1 contract with Ferrari till 2024.

A 5-year renewal indicates the faith and trust that the Scuderia have in Charles Leclerc. This also includes numerous monetary benefits and a significant rise in annual salary.

Drivers going beyond F1

It is not uncommon for drivers to experiment in other forms of motorsport. Recently, Lewis Hamilton and MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi swapped rides In Valencia. The 6-time World Champion was a mere 4s off Rossi’s lap time.

Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas has always been quite vocal about his love for rallying. The ‘Flying Finn’ takes part in multiple rally events over the year and during the winter break. However, a recent event saw Bottas spin while negotiating a tricky right-hander. A move that would have surely raised a few eyebrows at Brackley.

Leclerc also hinted that he would like to try his hand at rallying as it is different from F1. “It is quite different to what I am used to going around in circles from the morning to the afternoon so probably rally is something exciting that I would like to try.”

With Ferrari aiming to end a 12-year title drought, Leclerc’s ambitions outside the sport will firmly take a backseat for the foreseeable future.
