Feliciano Lopez Assures Inhouse Spectators for Mutua Madrid Open 2020

The Pandemic has forced many tournaments to adopt additional safety measures. The tennis schedule will resume in the US in August. Feliciano Lopez has tried to implement the same. Lopez is the tournament director of the Madrid Open and so he has ensured that player and fan safety is at prime in his tournament.s

Lopez participated in the Ultimate Tennis Showdown. A league started by Super Coach Patrick Mouratoglou. After his final group match on Saturday, he sat down for a press conference.

“We are very confident that we will be able to have some spectators” – Madrid Open Director Feliciano Lopez

The Spaniard told EssentiallySports reporter about the preparations for the Madrid Open. He mentions that they are working closely with the government. As the Tournament Director, he is very happy and confident about having a safe tournament with fans.

“Yes, we are working on that with the Government of Madrid. We presented our protocols a few days ago. The government, they were very happy, actually, they were very surprised of how strict is our protocols in terms of safety for the fans and especially for the players.” Lopez said.

“We are very confident that we will be able to have some spectators. If we don’t have another wave of COVID 19 during July and August, we are confident that we can have more percentages. Maybe we can have a little bit more if the situation continues to get better.” Lopez added

He also emphasized that every tournament needs to keep safety as a priority and work around it. He understands the risks involved but deems it necessary to start tennis as soon as possible. Players want to compete against each other and with the right protocols, we can start soon.

“Every tournament now needs to provide a lot of safety because after everything that happened in Serbia and some other tournaments. I know we are taking risks also when we decided to deliver the event,” he said

“I think tennis needs to resume. And if we do things properly if we provide a good protocol for the players and fans then I think we will be able to resume the tour and we as players will have the chance to compete again and I think this is what we need right now,” he added

Organizers, players, and fans are thinking about the future. Everyone wants Tennis to resume as soon as possible but safely. All hopes are that they aren’t any mishaps and we get to see competitive tennis.
