“We have a rough idea on that, but it’s not been completely decided yet. It’s impossible to talk about this right now. It seems that many people think it will become a trilogy. It all depends on how many parts we make. If we separate it into bigger chunks it will take more time, but if we take smaller portions it can be done on a shorter span. Personally, I would like to deliver it fast.”

“Smaller portions” would mean more parts in the series. As with anything, this has its pros and cons.
Quicker releases, concentrating on short portions, would mean fans won’t have to wait too long between successive installments. On the other hand, it would also mean spending more on the whole series than the fans had envisioned. It would also mean much shorter runtimes.
In all probability, fans wouldn’t mind spending more if it means well-structured parts with an immersive unfolding of the story like the first one.

Quote from Nomura & Kitase about how many parts the #FF7R will be (slight spoilers):
Nomura: We wanted to have the last boss fight take place at the highway in Midgar, which arises questions that I cannot answer. There is a character who’s alive, which leads to a great mystery. pic.twitter.com/QAxzyzl187

Nomura: (How about the next part?) Depends on how many parts the overall story will be. If we divide the story into large parts, it'll take longer to make. If we divide it into more detailed smaller sections, then developing it will be faster. I hope to release the next one ASAP.
