Final Fantasy is perhaps one of the most popular RPG franchises all around the world. The latest installment in the series, Final Fantasy XVI, was recently announced at the PS5 event. However, Square Enix has not yet revealed the release date for the title.

Producer Naoki Yoshida wrote about the latest teaser website of the game in a PlayStation Blog published earlier today. The teaser website contains various trivia about FF XVI: Awakening, including a detailed description of the lead characters and the setting.
“Our next major announcement is planned to take place in 2021, but ahead of that, we revealed the Final Fantasy XVI teaser website today. In the teaser website, we’ve included a lot of new information and artwork to introduce you to the world in which the story takes place, and also some of the main characters of the game.”
Square Enix reveals the teaser website for Final Fantasy XVI: Awakening
The 16th installment of the series takes place in a land known as Valisthea, where one can find “colossal mountains of glittering crystal called Mothercrystals.” These Mothercrystals play an important role in helping this land thrive by supplying it with Aether.
FF XVI features three protagonists, namely Clive Rosfield, Joshua Rosfield, and Jill Warrick. Yoshida describes Clive as, “The firstborn son of the Archduke of Rosaria, Clive is a Shield who protects his younger brother Joshua, the Dominant of the Phoenix. Joshua bestowed the Blessing of the Phoenix upon him, giving Clive the ability to wield a part of the Eikon’s fire.”
However, great tragedy befalls him as the story moves forward.
As for Clive and Joshua’s companion, we have Jill. She grew up with these two brothers as a part of the Rosfield family. However, the Northern Territories took her away from her homeland, to make her the ward of the Grand Duchy of Rosaria. The motive behind this was to ensure peace between the two realms.
From what we have gathered from the character synopses, the storyline certainly seems interesting. Final Fantasy XVI: Awakening will probably not release until late 2021, but now would be a good time to brush up on the previous titles in the series!
