Italian Fabio Fognini defeated Slovak Andrej Martin 6-4, 6-1 to win the Konzum Croatia Open Umag Title. It is his 4 ATP World Tour title, with all his title victories coming on his preferred clay surface. Fognini improved to a 4-7 record in finals. His previous titles include success at 2014 Vina Del Mar, 2013 Hamburg and 2013 Stuttgart.

“I have to be happy,” said Fognini. “A title is always a title. It was a great week of tennis.” With the title comes 250 ATP Ranking Points and €82,450 Prize Money. His previous best appearance in the tournament was when he lost to Tommy Robredo in the final of the event’s 2013 edition.

The 29 year old Fognini took a lead when he broke Martin at 5-4, and eased through the second set with a double break to complete the match in just 70 minutes.

Slovakian Andrej Martin, who entered the tournament unseeded, battled past compatriot Martin Klizan by saving five match points, was appearing in his first tour level final. His run earned him €43,430 as cash prize and 150 ATP Ranking Points. “Right now, it doesn’t feel so good, but over time I will appreciate what I did this week,” said Martin. “For me, it’s been a great experience.”
