However, club star Marco Reus believes that they have the squad to beat Bayern this time around. Reus spoke to the media over the weekend and gave some interesting quotes as captured by Sport Bild.

We have the squad to become German champions, win the cup, and advance in the Champions League,” Reus said. “Every individual has to be more consistent.

“We’ve shown room for improvement there in recent years. Of course, it also takes luck. But we can work for that with passion and heart.

It’s an interesting take as Dortmund just lost their star player, Jadon Sancho, to Manchester United, in a transfer worth £73M. They have signed Donyell Malen as his replacement and it’ll be interesting to see if Dortmund can compete without Sancho.

Dortmund has lost several star players before and has always found a way of being competitive. The departures of Ousmane Dembele and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang couldn’t deter the German club from challenging Bayern for the biggest honors in Germany.

Marco Reus speaks about Dortmund’s new manager, Marco Rose

The German international also talked about Dortmund’s new manager Marco Rose, who transferred over from Borussia Monchengladbach after some impressive performances. Reus revealed that Rose brings a fun environment to the club.

It’s great fun with him and the team. We hope that we will soon be able to show the things he teaches us on the pitch,” said Reus. “I have a good feeling because I sense that the guys are up for it.

“Especially after the cup win. There is good body language on display. We have to maintain that when the European Championship players join us. Then we have to become a fortress.

Marco Reus was referring to Borussia Dortmund’s triumph in the DFB-Pokal. Dortmund beat RB Leipzig in the final by a massive scoreline of 4-1.
