There are few figures more polarising in club football than Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Norwegian manager has been at the helm of Manchester United for over two seasons and has seen a lot of progress within the squad without winning a single trophy.

However, the English club has shown their faith in the manager and has granted him a new contract that sees him stay at the club until 2024. Executive Vice-Chairman of the club, Ed Woodward, complimented and acknowledged the direction Ole took with his signings. He also mentioned the traditional shift in the club and how this team is full of young stars.

This sentiment does not resonate with all the club’s fans, as the lack of trophies has been stark now. For a club used to winning it all under Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Matt Busby, these four years have been a nightmare.

However, if any club is the definition of a poorly run club, it’s Arsenal. They have consistently won trophies but have dropped in the table. United finished second last season after an impressive season from the young reds. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has helped nurture academy graduates Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford, and they look like they’ll be enormous stars.

The addition of former Manchester City player Jadon Sancho adds more stability and options to this squad, and United looks like they’ll compete on the biggest stage next season.

The Norwegian was delighted with the contract offer and will try to build on his vast legacy at the club.

Everyone knows the feeling I have for this club, and I am delighted to have signed this new contract. It is an exciting time for Manchester United. We have built a squad with a good balance of youth and experienced players that are hungry for success,” Ole said, according to a statement released by the club on their website.

Being a fan of the club himself, the manager will understand the tension among the club’s fans. While people are backing him now, another trophyless season might actually be the end of the road. However, for now, he’ll get to show his mettle at one of the biggest clubs on the planet.
