Paris Saint Germain has just had the best transfer window in history, signing the world’s best players to build an all-star team that a majority of soccer fans believe will shred up defenses next season and win the elusive Champions League trophy.

The club has successfully managed to adhere to Financial Fair Play rules as well as sign not only Achraf Hakimi, but also Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Georgino Wijnaldum, and the cherry on the top- Lionel Messi.

After all these big moves, it’s baffling to find out that PSG is still only in 6th place for most transfer spendings in the window. The Parisians are behind four premier league clubs and one German to find a comfortable spot.

Manchester City and Arsenal have spent more than PSG this window

Manchester City sits on top with the mammoth 100m Pound transfer of Jack Grealish from Aston Villa. The Villains, in turn, used that fee to finance the transfers of 5 other players to boost their chances for the new season. This places them second, followed by RB Leipzig, Manchester United, and Arsenal.

The reason why PSG sits so low on this list is that 4 out of 5 transfers the club has made this window have been free-agent deals. Gianluigi Donnarumma, who just won the Euro 2020 with Italy, joined the blues for free after refusing to sign a new contract with his former club AC Milan.

Sergio Ramos was not offered a renewal by Real Madrid, pushing him to look for more lucrative offers. Gini Wijnaldum had the same case with Liverpool and joined PSG on free. Finally, Lionel Messi, who could have left Barcelona for a handsome fee last season, found himself out of a contract this year.

PSG have only paid a transfer fee for Achraf Hakimi, not Lionel Messi

The Barcelona board could not find a remedy to offer him a new contract while staying within La Liga salary guidelines. This forced the Argentine to be parted with his boyhood club. PSG, jumping to the opportunity, also signed one of the greatest players of all time for free.

The club only spent on Achraf Hakimi, a deal that went up to 76m Euros. This truly made their transfer window the best, and the most effective. Although PSG will have to spend a lot more player salaries and other amenities, this truly is the best way the team could move forward and it is hard to imagine them not lifting the trophy next year.
