Former Connecticut Sun teammates Marina Mabrey and Aneesah Morrow will be reunited as the Sun traded Morrow to the Toronto Tempo, and Mabrey seems excited about the reunion. The Tempo posted a reel on Instagram, showcasing a previous scuffle between the two former teammates, as well as an image of the pair in Sun jerseys. The post was captioned “teammates once again”. Mabrey wasted no time in dropping a sweet comment under the post.

Morrow, who played one full season with the Sun, was traded to the Tempo on July 31 in exchange for a second-round pick from the 2028 WNBA draft along with the rights to veteran forward Maria Kliundikova. 

Aneesah Morrow, who is a Louisiana State University alum, was picked by the Connecticut Sun with the seventh overall pick in the first round of the 2025 WNBA draft. She played her first season with the Sun, where she met Mabrey. 

Marina Mabrey had joined the Sun just one season before Morrow, in 2024. The Notre Dame alum was traded to the Sun by the Chicago Sky. She only played 16 games for the Sun in 2024, but it was her best scoring average then. She averaged 14.9 points, 3.5  rebounds, and 3.4 assists.

Just one year after Mabrey joined, the Sun drafted Morrow in 2025. Through her 61 games for the Sun, she averaged 8.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 0.9 assists. The star forward had a stellar college career at LSU. She earned All-America recognition for all four years in college, clinching the 2025 Katrina McClain Award as well for being the nation’s best power forward. Morrow’s stats are some of the best in LSU history. She finished her college career with 104 career double-doubles, the second most in NCAA DI history. Her freshman and senior seasons saw her lead the country in rebounds.

It is no wonder the Tempo were excited to acquire Morrow, as they have been suffering from a rebounding drought. The Tempo have the third-worst rebound average in the league this season with 31.1, followed only by the Los Angeles Sparks and the Portland Fire. Aneesah Morrow can fix that for them. 

Morrow was averaging 8.9 rebounds this season for the Connecticut Sun, along with 11.6 points and 1.7 assists. She even led the league in defensive rebounding rate in 2025 (31.9%).  Her skills on the glass can help the Tempo better their current record of 10-18, 12th in the league. Tempo general manager Monica Wright Rogers spoke about what Morrow brings to the team, per NBC Sports.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Aneesah to our organization. She’s a relentless competitor who impacts the game in so many ways, particularly with her ability to rebound at a high level. We believe she’s one of the emerging frontcourt talents in this league, and we’re excited to see her play in a Tempo uniform.” 

With Mabrey playing her best scoring season yet, averaging 20.9 points, and Morrow to back her up with her elite rebounding (8.9 rpg in 2026), their reunion could give the Tempo a real chance to improve their record this year.
