Rockstar Games confirmed GTA 6 will only release on next-gen consoles. That’s great news for those having a PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. However, the same can’t be said about other platforms, especially the Nintendo Switch. Rockstar Games has no plans to drop its biggest open-world game on the handheld console. Now, it seems like the awaited Switch 2 may also not receive it. Why? Because it might not be able to handle it.

Several experts have predicted the next generation of Nintendo’s Switch hardware will not be powerful enough for a game like GTA 6. And there’s a big reason why the rumored machine won’t be able to do justice to the highly demanding video game.

Nintendo Switch 2 might not be powerful enough to run GTA 6 in the best way possible

The experts at Digital Foundry are known for their technically sound opinions about popular games and hardware. In their videos, they discuss various aspects of news across the gaming industry. Given the fact the record breaking GTA 6 trailer is everywhere and fans are curious about its performance on different consoles, Digital Foundry channel recently dropped a new video. It was all about answering the questions players may have regarding GTA 6 and everything related to it.

The video saw Rick taking the questions and asking Alexander and Oliver for their views. Interestingly, one of the questions was related to GTA 6 and whether it will arrive on Nintendo Switch 2 or not. When asked about a possibility, Digital Foundry’s Oliver mentioned the reason Switch 2 will simply struggle with the game.

He said, “switch is not going to be powerful enough” to handle the lighting and Ray Tracing effects of Grand Theft Auto 6. “I just cannot see it and in a world like this, you’ve got a big world with very complex CPU demands”.

Per the expert, Rockstar’s game has a level of simulation so complex that a Switch 2 can’t handle it. In short, the device is “going to struggle, I think, a lot more relative to its capabilities.”

Is Grand Theft Auto 6 coming to any other platform?

Sadly, the answer is no. Apart from next-gen PS5 and Xbox Series X\S, Rockstar Games has no plans to offer the game elsewhere. However, a lot of fans are hopeful of an eventual PC release.

Rockstar Games had even acquired a mod-making team (known for GTA V and RDR2 mods on PC) this year. Many players believed the studio took this step to add more elements to the PC version of GTA 6. However, that wasn’t the case as the trailer reveal from last week confirmed the game will only be available on consoles. At least initially.

It will be interesting to see if the devs come up with a surprising update in the next few months in relation to the next Grand Theft Auto’s expansion on non-console devices. In the meantime, fans can only hope for good news.
