In 2013, Rockstar Games released GTA 5, which became the fastest-selling entertainment product of all time. It even defeated James Cameron’s Avatar in its success. It was successfully released for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Months later, Rockstar Games launched GTA Online, the multiplayer mode of GTA 5. To this day, gamers are playing this game; its single-player mode has its fans, and its online mode has its own following. For $60, fans received a game that gave them 11 successful years of entertainment.
Hot take: You're actually mentally ill for being fine with paying $100 for video games. https://t.co/RM8pyBAwQf

Similar is the case with Red Dead Redemption 2. This game launched for PlayStation 4 and Xbox consoles in 2018. This also became one of the best-selling entertainment properties. It was also priced at $60. And people are still enjoying it to this day. Its multiplayer mode does not have a fan following as massive as GTA Online, but the campaign is still massively successful with players flocking to the game even now. Hence, if GTA 6 ends up being as replayable as Red Dead 2 or GTA V, no doubt this game would be worth $70, which is a standard price right now. Even if it were much larger than any other games Rockstar Games launched before, $100 seems like a stretch. When GTA V and RDR2 can keep players hooked even now, how can GTA 6 justify a significantly higher price tag?

As always, the developer decided to make GTA 6 larger and more detailed, as seen in the trailer. GTA 6 would be as good if it was as big as GTA 5 or Red Dead 2. But if Rockstar Games decides to make it larger, then they have to make sure they sell it at a standard price. Not a premium. Some would say it is worth it, but they would not realize that GTA 6 becoming a hit at the $100 price tag would encourage every other developer to do so. And in the long run, gamers may not be happy with such a ripple effect.
Just look at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. They released a half-game, and people paid $70 for it. Even those who did not want to pay that much had to, as that’s the standard price now.

There’s no confirmation about the price so all this is just theory for now. However, when Rockstar Games do release the price, an increased price tag will surely have potential implications that will be felt by the community.
