2023 Game of the Year Baldur’s Gate 3 has a special fan integration that would surely leave you overwhelmed. Larian Studios’ Dungeons & Dragons masterclass didn’t win GOTY for nothing. Further, it also won the Players’ Voice award. So with all the love it got, it was about time the devs gave something back. They have left fans teary-eyed for a lesser-known NPC tribute in the game.

In-game tributes and Easter eggs are always a treat to experience. From Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto to Bethesda’s Starfield, it’s always a pleasure witnessing developers go beyond the boundaries to immortalize a memory. Spider-Man: Miles Morales paid tribute to the legendary Stan Lee with a statue. Now what did Larian Studios do? They created an NPC inspired by a BG3 fan!

Meet Golbraith Stredivas from Baldur’s Gate 3 and the inspiration behind (potential spoilers ahead)

If you have played through the world of Larian Studios’ epic role-playing RPG, you might remember meeting Golbraith Stredivas. As a reminder, you meet the character in Lower City during Act 3. While there are a lot of NPC characters you come across in the game to interact with, the conversation with Golbraith is meant to stay with you. Well, it’s no coincidence because the character is actually based on a fan and their struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Back in the day when Baldur’s Gate 3 was in early access, a forum confession had taken the internet by storm. A user named Solfalia had taken to their handle and extended their gratitude to Larian Studios for releasing Act 1 for early access. Due to the early access, the user was able to take the experience to their father, who had always been a fan of Larian’s creations. Unfortunately, the father had been recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and therefore the opportunity to play Baldur’s Gate 3 in early access meant a lot to both of them.

This emotional confession came to the attention of the developers, and one writer immediately approached the forum user for an offer. The Studio expressed their desire to honor the user’s father in the game as a message for all other gaming enthusiasts struggling with such health issues. According to the source, upon accepting the offer, they were informed Larian had developed a character named Golbraith Stredivas in their father’s honor.

Not only did Golbraith look like my father, but he had multiple lines of dialogue. Some really touching ones too (for me, at least),” Solfalia shared. “The different papers in the house were amazing, the stack of letters between Golbraith and his son put a lump in my throat. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t misty eyed. The secret mindflayer-hunter cellar was awesome,” the user wrote in a recent forum post. Furthermore, the source informed how their father reacted to the tribute.

As soon as I finished looking through the whole house, I told my Dad. He’s in a care home now, so can’t play the game, but he listened to my description with a child-like glee I haven’t seen in a while. He loved every moment of it,” the user wrote, thanking the developers of Baldur’s Gate 3.
