Early reports have suggested this COD game’s codename to be ‘Saturn’ and now more details have emerged recently. Call of Duty 2025, from Activision, has popped up on the internet even before any official confirmation of next year’s rumored Black Ops Gulf War from Treyarch.

According to a brand new leak coming from a very reliable source, Activision seems to have drastically changed its plans for Call of Duty 2025. If the new intel is anything to go by, the first-person shooter game will have a story set in the far future. Interestingly, it’s even got a wild connection with 2012’s iconic and fan-favorite Black Ops 2.

Trusted industry insider Tom Henderson recently shared a major piece of information. He revealed that Call of Duty 2025 will be set in the Black Ops sub-series. However, it won’t be a direct sequel to 2024’s rumored Black Ops Golf War. Previous speculations hinted that Activision would follow a pattern like the Modern Warfare series by offering back-to-back games within the same franchise, like Modern Warfare II and Modern Warfare 3.

Henderson has claimed that Call of Duty 2025 will be a sequel to 2012’s Black Ops 2. Yes, that’s the big surprise no one probably saw coming. A game from 2012, set in 2025, will now get a successor in the year 2025 – that’s going to be insane. Moreover, Treyarch’s game is expected to be semi-futuristic with a plot from the year 2030.

This means Black Ops 2’s sequel will take place five years after the events of the game from a decade ago. Speaking of other details, COD 2025 will also bring back the Pick-10 Create a Class feature. Apart from that, it will reportedly have a huge overhaul of the movement system. Plus, the gunfight mode is also rumored to return. Not to mention the round-based zombies after 2024’s Black Ops installment, according to Henderson’s report on his website.

As of now, it’s not confirmed whether the ‘Carry Forward’ feature will also arrive in COD 2025. Since it will be a Black Ops game, coming after 2024’s premium, one can expect a model similar to Modern Warfare II and Modern Warfare 3’s content sharing. But the latter is a sequel within the same timeline.

That’s not the case with COD 2025, as it will come after the Black Ops Gulf War, which is expected to be a sequel to the Black Ops Cold War from 2020. In short, the timeline doesn’t really match in order to have a ‘Carry Forward’ system.

All things considered, the big news clearly conveys one message. Activision is focusing on churning out more content based on nostalgia. Black Ops 2 is one of the best-selling Call of Duty games of all time, with close to 30 million sold copies. Hence, it makes sense to bring it back, but with a new experience and story.
