By now, the internet is already flooded with memes over God of War‘s Kratos actor taking a jab Call of Duty during recently concluded The Game Awards 2023 event. Just when everyone thought COD wouldn’t have any presence felt in the awards show, Kratos did something no one was expecting him to do while taking over the stage. As a result, many COD devs are frustrated with him right now.

Apart from the awards won by deserving contenders, this year’s The Game Awards grabbed attention for many weird reasons. One of them happens to be connected to Christopher Judge. The iconic voice actor, who played Kratos in last year’s God of War: Ragnarok, was present this year as well. Showing up as a presenter, he was on the stage to reveal the name for Best Performance award category. Before doing that, however, he decided to take a ‘longshot’ at Call of Duty.

Christopher Judge arrived on the stage and mentioned how his speech from last year’s award show was extremely long in terms of duration. “It is such a pleasure to be back here, I have such great memories of last year”, he said before continuing further. He said he won’t be repeating his ‘long speech’ style from 2022, after he won the award for Best Performance for his role as Kratos in Ragnarok.

Judge promised he wasn’t “going to stand up here making long speeches. I’m going to stick to the script. No 8 minute speech.” But in his next line, he seemingly ended up annoying a lot of COD fans and possibly many devs too. “But fun fact. My speech was actually longer than this year’s Call of Duty campaign”.

Following his crisp and extremely short speech, the internet was full of memes over Call of Duty. And that how the series became a subject of laughter due to Modern Warfare 3‘s short Campaign length this year. Many players who experienced the single-player mode of the newly released FPS premium have expressed a similar sentiment.

However, several devs who have worked on various Call of Duty games are definitely not pleased with Christopher Judge’s comments made during The Game Awards. Ajinkya Limaye, a former developer at Infinity Ward who’s now at Bungie, took to social media platform X and decided to take a shot at Judge’s remarks on MW3’s Campaign.

“But yeah, the metrics that Call of Duty absolutely destroys all of the God of War games (probably combined to be honest) is also equally laughable (if not more).” The now-deleted post from the former COD dev tried to convey that PlayStation’s God of War series doesn’t even compare to the player engagement generated by Call of Duty titles. And that all of the GoW titles combined can’t come close to Activision’s FPS franchise.

Furthermore, Treyarch’s Nelson Plumey (associate director at the studio under Xbox Game Studios) also came up with a similar take on Judge.

Another dev working at Sledgehammer Games took to X to share her reaction. “Honestly, as COD developers, we’ve heard way worse. But we don’t expect it from a peer, at an event that supposed to be celebrating this years achievements in gaming. Especially with all the information that was leaked about it’s development”, wrote Darcy Sandall. This post was later deleted.

Per various reports, Modern Warfare 3 was rumored to be a DLC from last year’s MWII. Few weeks ago, there was a leaked information about how Sledgehammer’s team was forced to work on the game in a time of 16 months only. However, the studio had later denied such claims.
