Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 developers are taking the fight to cheaters. In Call of Duty, many players use cheats like auto aim and wall hacks to get an unfair advantage over other players. This is mostly done to climb up the rank ladder without needing to get better at the game. This practice has gone on for a while, much to the dissatisfaction of the wider community. Now, Sledgehammer Games are taking it no more.

Many players started voicing their concerns about cheaters using hacks in the game. And this led to many players quitting MW3 just days into its launch. But to fix this issue, Sledgehammer Games decided to get strict with their cheating policy and has started to ban accounts of players using hacks.

Sledgehammer Games employs an anti-cheat tool called Ricochet. Recently, the program has detected more cheating than in the past. However, while some applaud the effort against cheaters, others criticize the flaws in the AI system.

How effective are these bans?

One of the things that left players on the fence about the bans was that players were only getting their accounts banned. The bans are not based on IP addresses, allowing cheaters to create new accounts easily and continue their activities. While 23,000 accounts have been banned, some of them belonged to players claiming they were not cheating. This has led to many complaints about the lack of effective customer support for innocent players who have been banned.

Many players have reported receiving bans or shadow bans apparently without reasons. This has led to frustration and skepticism regarding the effectiveness of the new detectors.

Although Ricochet is being praised for the recent clean-up of cheaters from the game, players are voicing their thoughts about improving the systems so that innocent players are not affected by bans.

Sledgehammer has implemented such a large ban on the initial stages of the game. This gives players the security that the devs will not stand cheating and will actively work on getting rid of cheaters from Modern Warfare 3.
