Ever since Rockstar Games confirmed the trailer launch window of GTA 6 in December, all eyes have been on the social media handles of the developers. And following up in the previous tweet, they confirmed the trailer will release on December 5. So you’d think all we have to do now is wait. So why’s the social media buzz around GTA 6 so hot? 

Rockstar Games “removed over 4000 posts”

The developers of celebrated franchises like Grand Theft Auto, and Red Dead Redemption have a social media following that testifies to their legacy as game developers. At the time of writing, the company has over 18 million followers on X and 27.4 million followers on Instagram, making them the most popular social media handles of gaming developers. The GTA 6 trailer date announcement is now the highlight of the company’s Instagram handle and it’s not surprising. 

The announcement post on Instagram had received over 2 million likes in just three hours. However, the profile has something more interesting to speculate on. It has just one post, which is of the GTA 6 announcement itself. The developers archived over 4000 posts to ensure the trailer date gets all the attention. The developers joined the platform in June 2012 and since then, this is the first time they have implemented a strategy like this. 

Why are the developers hyping GTA 6 this way? 

The anticipation surrounding GTA 6 is at a level that’s probably never been seen before. So, a clean slate on Instagram feels more like a symbolic statement by the makers to the whole world. With all the leaks and theories that have surfaced throughout the course of the GTA 6 ‘wait campaign’, the game has only looked more appealing.
