Ever since the GTA 6 trailer came out, one question has been doing rounds on the internet. Will it support a desirable 60 FPS gameplay or not on next-gen consoles like Xbox Series X\S and PS5? Speaking of the latter, it’s even rumored to get a big boost with a mid-gen upgrade called PS5 Pro. However, even that won’t be enough to satisfy the next Grand Theft Auto’s requirements for a satisfying experience.
This is what an insider has predicted for GTA 6 on PS5 Pro. It seems like the game will be locked at 30 FPS despite arriving for the upgraded model of the latest PlayStation generation from Sony. Interestingly, there’s a very solid reason to believe this rumor. The following article will try to mention that in a detailed manner.

Firstly talking about the specs of PS5 Pro, it’s rumored to have a solid upgrade compared to the regular PlayStation 5. Going by the reports, the mid-gen enhanced console will have a 5nm Viola SoC. The latter is expected to utilize AMD’s RDNA 3 GPU with 60 CUs (control unit). Now that’s about 67 percent more than the PS5. Moreover, the console will gain power from 3840 stream processors – similar to the amount of stream processors in AMD’s desktop-level graphic cards.

However, the PS5 Pro may not receive a very promising CPU upgrade as far as recent leaks are concerned. It’s rumored to have an eight core, 16-thread Zen 2 CPU with a speed up to 4.6 GHz. It’s still a good increase of around 27 percent over the original model. However, this is the main reason why CPU-heavy games like GTA 6 may not play out as intended on PS5 Pro.
According to reputed leaker and insider Kepler, GTA 6 will probably perform at 30 FPS only even on the PlayStation 5 Pro if it’s going to be 30 FPS on the current PS5 hardware. That’s because Rockstar’s graphic intensive title will be CPU-heavy. As a result, PS5 Pro’s CPU improvement might not be sufficient to offer a 60 FPS gameplay.
If GTA 6 is 30 FPS on PS5 it's probably 30 FPS on PS5 Pro too. I imagine the game will be quite CPU heavy and the CPU upgrade on the Pro is rather small.

This aforementioned post was shared by Kepler on December 5 – the day GTA 6 trailer was revealed. Moreover, other experts who have analyzed the trailer have also predicted that the game isn’t likely to hit 60 FPS on current consoles. One of the main reasons for that is the rumored usage of raytraced global illumination technology by Rockstar.
Coming back to the PS5 Pro, it’s yet to be officially announced by Sony. The company is currently trying to meet the target of 25 million annual console shipments. That’s definitely going to be a tough challenge to complete.

Announcing a mid-gen upgrade anytime soon could affect the sales of the latest model as customers will obviously demand the new console than its previous version. That might be the basic reason for there being no word from Sony on the new system yet. But more than anything, GTA fans will surely not like the idea of getting stuck at 30 FPS despite going ‘Pro’ with the next iteration of the console.
