After the success of PT, the 2014 psychological horror game developed by Kojima Productions, the studio announced the next horror game called OD during The Game Awards 2023. This game is another look into the haunting mind of Hideo Kojima. Although there will be some similarities in the games made by the same developer, it looks like OD has a direct reference that calls back to recurring scenes in PT.

The Horrors of both OD and PT are based on Doors

After the reveal of the trailer for OD (Overdose) at The Game Awards 2023, a post on Twitter pointed out the similarity in the door from PT with the upcoming game. The post comes captioned with a description of what the new game OD is supposed to be about.

According to the description, the game “Explores the concept of testing your fear threshold, and what it means to OD on fear — while blurring the boundaries of gaming and film.” In the post, there is a mention of OD having a scary Door that strikes fear, just like in PT.

During The Game Awards 2023, Kojima Productions showcased a trailer for the game. The trailer features two characters repeating the same sentence in fear over and over. “The hungry purple dinosaur, the kind zingy fox, the jabbering crab, the mad whale, and actions like vending and quacking.”

After this, there is a sound of a door opening and closing and the female character bursts into a scream. So it’s clear that the door has significance in the horrors of the game playing out.
