Is it time for Sony to shift its focus from Single Player narratives? In the last few years, PlayStation has heavily prioritized first party single-player projects. The Last of Us, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and Days Gone are some of the biggest names that come to mind when one thinks of their strategy. But now, it seems like the pattern might change going forward, with a huge focus on the fighting games genre.

The first presentation slide shows fighting game transactions and related stats to record how such titles compare to other live-service games. According to the slide details, players usually have to wait for 3 months between transactions. In short, the length of average days for fighting games tends to be higher than the rest of the entries.

Further, the second presentation slide shows the distribution of transaction type connected to the first purchase. It includes games like Street Fighter V and Mortal Kombat 1 alongside FPS and other live-service titles such as Destiny 2. Now, what’s crucial to note is the fact that more than 25 percent of the first transactions for fighting games are season passes. Which means Sony can focus on providing season pass-based content. That’s when (and if) it restarts making fighting games with a live-service model.
