Rockstar Games finally released the GTA 6 trailer earlier today. The game looks incredible, and it can be seen how meticulously Rockstar Games has been working on the game. As fans continue watching this trailer, again and again, there’s something that is being overlooked. Why did Rockstar Games release the trailer hours before its official release? It’s because the trailer got leaked.
In an attempt to do some damage control, Rockstar Games had to officially release the trailer. Unfortunately, this is not the first time GTA 6 has faced these sort of leaks.

In late 2022, a massive leak hit the internet. It was massive because it showed everyone hours of early development footage of GTA 6. The game was unannounced back then, but this leak forced the developer to announce it unceremoniously. Rockstar Games simply said they were indeed working on the game and would talk about it more when they’re ready.

The second leak came when someone decided that it would be fun to show off GTA 6 on their TikTok account. This was never confirmed to be true, but the leaker hinted at the fact that they were related to a Rockstar Games employee. On December 4, 2023, Rockstar Games dropped a tweet saying a trailer would go live on YouTube on December 5 a day later. But less than 24 hours before the trailer was supposed to release, someone leaked that trailer too. The account was suspended, but with the number of people who viewed it by then, Rockstar Games to sadly officially release their own trailer early too.

This kind of thing can be very damaging to a company and the morale of its developers. While gamers are eager to get new content, it’s wrong and unfortunate for developers who put so much time and effort into making such massive games. But is it too much to hope this won’t happen again?
Leaks are getting more and more frequent with recent games.

Leaks have become somewhat of a daily occurrence. Games or details regarding games are getting leaked left and right. Earlier this year, story details on Fire Emblem got leaked online. It was followed by a massive S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 leak when some hackers leaked a developer build of that Xbox-backed title.
Most recently, someone leaked games like Super Mario RPG Remake and Super Mario Bros. Wonder in their completion online.
