The Astrobotic probe carrying the MrBeast campaign payload recorded a successful launch on January 8, 2024. However, it encountered a sun orientation problem on which the Peregrine lander couldn’t receive any solar power due to improper orientation. “Unfortunately, it appears the failure within the propulsion system is causing a critical loss of propellant. The team is working to try and stabilize this loss, but given the situation, we have prioritized maximizing the science and data we can capture. We are currently assessing what alternative mission profiles may be feasible at this time,” the space company stated.

The signs started to look bad for the payload’s journey to the moon. Now in a follow-up update, the company has reported some positive news claiming that the window to get the mission back on track looks still feasible enough. According to their claim, there’s still a 40-hour bridge on the basis of fuel consumption and threshold for the team to get things fixed. Certainly, the hopes aren’t lost for the fans but there’s an intense space battle ahead for your $10 payload.

Through the campaign, Jimmy promised the fans to take their desired pictures to the moon for the cost of just $10. This was to be achieved by encrypting data on the hard drive and sending it to the lunar surface with the help of Astrobotic. Thus, the hard drive that reached the moon would become the first ever time capsule on the Earth’s satellite!
