GamesIndustry.biz called together their “annual panel of industry-watchers,” to go through their journey of 2023 and see what they predict we will get to see in the future. In this panel was Dr. Serkan Toto from Kantan Games and Tom Wijman from Newzoo. Both these experts spoke about the Switch 2 in their predictions.

Dr. Serkan Toto predicted a new version of the Nintendo console called Switch 2. He predicted that it’s coming soon, and will cost $400. He mentioned signs of a “Pro” model, and tha some developers are already working on it. The new Switch may launch next year, possibly with games costing $70. Toto thinks it’ll be more of an update than a big change, keeping the main features. He stressed on the importance of keeping it portable, especially for Pokémon and handheld gaming.

He said, “And because there is Pokémon, and Pokémon is associated with handheld gaming, there is no way on earth Nintendo will drop the portability feature for their next big thing.”

Tom Wijman predicted the Nintendo Switch 2 will arrive in 2024 with a new 3D Mario game. He said, “Nintendo Switch 2 will launch in 2024 with a highly anticipated 3D Mario game. Having embraced a digital storefront, Nintendo will allow users to transfer between Nintendo accounts to Switch 2; no more building your games library from scratch.”

Nintendo will likely stick to digital distribution, letting users transfer games between accounts easily. This means you won’t have to rebuild your game collection when switching to the new console.
