As if 2023 wasn’t big enough, the giants of the gaming industry will yet again deliver this year. Gamers will be spoilt for choice yet again, be it on the PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo consoles. With the console rivalry being one of the biggest talking points in the industry, it’s important to remember, one of the most exciting aspects of this rivalry is the games the companies put out for us. So what do these powerhouses have in store for us this year?

Each console has its fair share of exclusives that draw fans to it. Last year, Xbox for instance, had Starfield, Nintendo had Super Mario Bros. Wonder and PlayStation had Spider-Man 2, all of which were significant milestones for the respective brands and have no doubt left their mark on gamers as well as the history of the makers as well as the consoles. Now Xbox fans can rejoice over the successful Activision Merger. PlayStation and Nintendo fans can debate who had it better with their exclusive and award nominees and winners. One can make an argument that PlayStation had the biggest year while hardcore fans of the rival consoles may say otherwise. But which of the big 3 will play the biggest role in shaping 2024 for gamers?

One might wonder: after games like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Spider-Man 2, and Starfield made 2023 one of the best years in gaming, what chance does 2024 have? Well, it’s set to bring an even larger number of exclusives and multiplatform titles. Here are some exclusives that will be released on each platform in 2024.

The developers will surely further enhanced this game with better visuals, far better real-time combat, and numerous new and interesting side quests.

  • Death Stranding 2

Hideo Kojima is all set to bring the follow-up to his 2018 masterpiece to PlayStation 5 in 2024. The game was revealed during the Game Awards 2022, and fans have yet to see anything new from this game. It looked very impressive, and it appears most of the main cast will be returning. Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux, and Troy Baker were seen in the trailer itself.

The game might end up releasing in 2024, giving fans yet another reason to get their hands on a PS5.

  • Silent Hill 2 Remake

Konami and Sony are at it again; they have introduced the world to a new game that will be coming exclusively to PS5. Technically, it’s not a new game; it’s a remake of Silent Hill 2, the best game in this long-running survival horror series. But the fanfare behind this franchise is massive, and it makes sense for Sony and Konami to make it an exclusive.

Even though it does not have a set launch date, everyone is dead sure that it will launch sometime in 2024.

  • Stellar Blade

This is one of the few games coming to PS5 that is neither a sequel nor a remake. It is just a very good-looking, fast-paced hack-and-slash action game. This game looks so promising that it already has a massive fanbase awaiting its arrival.

The game is said to have reached completion and might launch in the early months of 2024. Let’s hope it turns out as good as it looks.

  • Rise of the Ronin

Team Ninja brings a brand new open-world take on their own Nioh franchise to fans. It is half inspired by FromSoftware’s Elden Ring, looks like it’s taken inspiration from Ghost of Tsushimas as well, even bringing Horse to the playfield. But it also tops it all up with a grappling hook and a glider, which means transversal would be very fast and fun.

This new open-world soulslike will be launching in March 2024 exclusively for PS5.

There are also some people saying Wolverine might launch on the PS5 in 2024, but the recent Insomniac Games leaks suggest that the game is not even completed yet. Hence, there are very slim chances of it launching in 2024.

Xbox

  • Avowed

Obsidian Entertainment is all set to launch its new RPG in 2024. This game would be a mix of medieval and modern gameplay mechanics. Some say this game will rival Skyrim when it launches.

Not sure what kind of achievement it would be if it tried to rival a game that launched back in 2011. Still, Obsidian is pretty good at making RPGs, and even if it’s nowhere near as detailed and big as Skyrim, Avowed would still be a game worth getting an Xbox for.

  • HellBlade 2: Senua’s Saga

Ninja Theory is hard at work on their new horror, puzzle, and adventure games. Senua’s Saga might just end up being one of the best-looking games of 2024. They haven’t given fans a single hint about what direction this game might take in terms of story.

But it looks like they will find this out in 2024 when the game launches.

  • S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2

Yes, the sequel to Stalker is almost here. This game has seen numerous delays over the years. But thanks to the perseverance of GSC, this game is almost at the end of its development cycle, and it’s looking better than it ever looked.

This first-person survival game will be launching on Xbox in 2024.

Nintendo

  • Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

Years ago, when Nintendo launched this game for their GameCube console, no one cared for it. Even though it was a very well-made and well-written game with all the bells and whistles of an excellent comedy RPG game, now that it has a cult classic-like following, they have decided to remake it and launch it for Nintendo Switch.

It’s looking pretty good, and there are chances it will launch early next year.

  • Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD

It appears Luigi’s Mansion 3 was a bigger hit than Nintendo had anticipated. Maybe that’s why they decided to launch the second installment on the Switch with HD visuals. The game originally launched for Nintendo 3Ds, and it got some very positive reviews. It was also a decent enough financially successful Nintendo to remake it for the Switch.

Currently, these are the two games that will surely be released for the Nintendo Switch in 2024. No doubt there are many more games Nintendo might be planning to launch, but they haven’t even shown much of them. Maybe they are waiting for Nintendo Switch 2’s time to come first. Let’s see how things change. Till then, PlayStation 5 looks like the clear winner here. The reason is that this is the console that has the most exciting line-up just laid out for it. However, this might change, in case Nintendo or Microsoft decide to reveal some more games in the coming months.

Writing about video games has been on my mind for years and being an eSports writer at EssentiallySports gave me that chance.
