There has been an update regarding Wolverine and Blade. Following the monumental success of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, industry giants will keep the superhero genre going. While everyone knew about Insomniac Games’ Wolverine, The Game Awards 2023 brought a new, exciting superhero title to the spotlight. The event took everyone by surprise when the developers announced an upcoming adaptation of Marvel’s Blade to the gaming table. Now, both Wolverine and Blade are the next big things to look forward to for fans of the superhero genre.

After PlayStation dropped a title announcement teaser for Wolverine, fans hoped for another look at the game in the form of an update at TGA 2023. Instead, fans got word of a new superhero title. The forthcoming Xbox exclusive Marvel’s Blade might have been announced a few days back, but it looks like it has been in development for a long time. Well, what does this mean for its counterpart, Wolverine? Could we be looking at PlayStation vs Xbox?

Marvel’s Blade development started alongside PS5’s Wolverine.

A LinkedIn profile update has fueled an interesting theory around both the Marvel games planned next for the industry. Dana Nightingale, Campaign Director for Marvel’s Blade, confirmed through her profile update that the project had begun development in January 2022. So, it’s been almost two years since Marvel’s Blade went into production. However, there’s been no official update since.

What’s interesting is the fact that Marvel’s Wolverine has been under production for almost an identical timestamp. PlayStation made the title announcement in September 2021. Even though Marvel’s Wolverine is very early in development, from what I’ve seen of its emotional narrative and cutting-edge gameplay (see what I did there?), the team is already creating something truly special,” the official blog read for the announcement. Clearly, both the games have been with the Marvel parent for two years now. So, are we on for a contest?

It’s an audacious move to go from the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man to the dark savagery of Wolverine. We still don’t know much about Insomniac’s plans for this specific shift, though, at this point. Nevertheless, the company has produced some of the greatest superhero games in recent memory, including some of the greatest PS5 exclusives. This implies that Wolverine from Marvel will be in good hands, despite the fact that it signifies a change in tone for Insomniac.

On the contrary, Marvel’s Blade another darker version of the superhero universe is being supervised by Bethesda. The Xbox-owned Bethesda Studios have lately been unable to keep up with their own set standards. While Redfall was a total misfit, Starfield seemed like a lost opportunity to cash in on the surreal hype. Thus, Marvel’s Blade could be the possible redemption Bethesda needed.
