Is the upcoming Super Mario 3D project the wildest experience in the Mushroom Kingdom? Well, a recent report has sparked some interesting speculations around the highly-awaited Super Mario installment. The promising idea of Super Mario returning to the open-world 3D formula certainly appealed to a lot of gaming fans. However, the project hasn’t seen much light apart from the rumors that had teased the visionary game’s development being underway. Now, in one latest viral claim, the gaming world has been subjected to another massive sneak peek into the game. It looks like Nintendo has a perfect treat planned for the community in 2024!

From The Legend of Zelda to Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Nintendo has had a pretty impressive year as a developer. The Japanese gaming giants have certainly lived up to the expectations and convincingly remained in the popular sales charts across the globe. Moreover, with the rumors running around about a possible Nintendo Switch 2 release in the first quarter of 2024, the near future for the company looks more promising than ever. But amidst all these discussions going around Nintendo’s run, the upcoming Super Mario 3D game remained a mystery, until now. This next project might be a ‘crossover’ carnival as claimed by a credible industry insider.

According to the latest rumors, the next planned Super Mario 3D open-world adventure will offer a series of exciting crossovers in the Mushroom Kingdom. The reports are sourced from a credible industry scoop who had made plenty of accurate predictions on the Japanese gaming giants before.

The leak provides a picture titled ‘Super Mario Omniverse’ which includes frames from various gaming worlds of the Nintendo Universe. “Would you like the next Mario 3D, our mustachioed hero, to visit worlds from other Nintendo sagas? Well, it seems that Nintendo has already experimented with this and it could become a reality at some point,” the caption translates.

The titles that feature in the background include Hyrule, Animal Crossing, Metroid, Star Fox, Luigi’s Mansion, and Xenoblade Chronicles. For a lot of gaming veterans, the Omniverse idea might sound similar to Kingdom Hearts where Sora explored a bunch of different dimensions of Disney picking up friends along the way contributing to the core narrative. Sounds like Super Mario is going the Kingdom Hearts way!

When can the fans expect ‘Omniverse’ to release?

Unlike the buzz around Nintendo Switch 2, Super Mario’s next 3D venture hasn’t faced any major updates. In fact, despite this recent claim, the project has mostly been under the wraps. However, predicting a launch window for the project might not be too hard. If you’re a hardcore Nintendo fan, you know there’s a definite pattern the developers follow.

Super Mario Odyssey was released in 2017 to coincide with the Nintendo Switch’s launch date, and it immediately rose to the top of the platform’s popularity. Ever since that moment, people have been speculating about whether Nintendo could consider releasing another 3D Mario game. Considering the pattern of the rumors, the Nintendo Switch 2 or what most fans are calling Nintendo’s surprise new device will be getting this entry as a day-one release.

Also, the leaks around the Nintendo Switch 2 release window align with the theory. It is important to note that although all these rumors are traced to credible sources, there’s no official confirmation on any of these claims. So, it looks like fans will have to wait for a few weeks to get an official ‘stamp of approval’.
