According to a popular industry scoop, ID Software is rumored to be working on a licensed IP planned as an Xbox exclusive after Blade. The speculations suggest that the discussions around the IPs included two companies: Marvel and Star Wars. Since Marvel’s project has already been revealed, it’s a strong possibility Microsoft’s next exclusive is a Star Wars label. In fact, further deductions suggest it could be Star Wars Mandalorian.

If the source is to be trusted, this next IP is scheduled for 2024 or 2025. However, there’s not much concrete evidence provided by the source to feed on the same. Currently, being just a rumor, there are some theories that add value to the claim. For instance, rumors about a Mandalorian game being in development have existed in the community for a while

Another piece of information shared by the source reveals the developers were looking for some video game designers who specialized in vehicles. Although this doesn’t give much to the Mandalorian theory, this certainly suggests the company has been actively working on a game for a while. Also, the infamous leaks of Microsoft vs FTC legal documents also unveiled Microsoft’s plans to bring more licensed IPs under the Xbox banner.

The bankability of the Star Wars IP

Looking at the recent success of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, licensed IPs appear to be the next big trend. The lineup just for Marvel looks exhilarating with Wolverine being under development for Insomniac and Blade with Bethesda. But could another licensed project with Star Wars be the saturation to the fever?

The last installment under the Star Wars gaming banner came out in April this year with Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. It was a decent outing for Respawn as it received an impressive reception from fans and critics. However, as the latest rumors around an Xbox exclusive with Star Wars surfaced through the web, fans weren’t ideally pleased. Tracing these rumors to the days when it was speculated Zenimax was working on the same, the skepticism has been obvious.

For a lot of fans, this brings a lot of concerns about the bankability of the project. The fans believe if the rumors are true, the project would have to be a very good game to sit well in the community.
