Starfield Lands Two Nominations for D.I.C.E Awards While Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Leads With 9 Nominations

We are soon approaching the 27th DICE Awards and fans are curious to know what games will take home trophies this year. 2023 was flooded with some huge titles like PlayStation Studios fastest selling title, Spider-Man 2, survival horror masterpiece Alan Wake 2 and the Game of The Year winner at 2023, Baldur’s Gate III. To the surprise of many, Spider-Man 2 did not win any awards and Starfield didn’t even make the nominees list. But the DICE awards could be their night.

Known for recognizing excellence in the gaming world, the D.I.C.E. Awards have 56 games as finalists for 2024. The winners for each category will be chosen by votes from members of the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences. And going by the nominations, Spider-Man 2 stands a good chance to take home some awards, having secured 9 nominations.

As the complete list of nominees for the D.I.C.E. Awards surfaces on the internet, it is clear that a few titles are much more liked than the others on the list. Games like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Alan Wake 2 performed extremely well, with 9 and 8 nominations, respectively. Following closely at third is the TGA 2023 Game of the Year winner, Baldur’s Gate 3. This Larian Studios title has been nominated for 7 different categories, making it a strong contender for Game of the Year on this list. The 3 mentioned games were also nominated for GOTY at TGA 2023, and Baldur’s Gate III beat them to the award. Further, an unexpected game, Cocoon, earned 6 nominations.

Other games that were nominated for the awards were Hogwarts Legacy with three nominations and Starfield with two nominations. The iconic Legend of Zelda series made its mark with several nominations for Tears of the Kingdom, while Blizzard Entertainment’s action RPG, Diablo IV, is in the spotlight with nominations across various categories, including Role-Playing Game of the Year and Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Composition. The ever-popular Call of Duty franchise continues to impress with a nomination for Online Game of the Year.

While other games are doing well on their own, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 looks like the most dominant game at the function. Xbox on the other hand, is lagging with only 2 nominations for their exclusive.

How have the two console exclusives been doing overall?

In the console war between Xbox and PlayStation, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Starfield are the two titles that are representing their console. Both the games were released around a month apart, with Starfield coming out on September 6 and Spider-Man 2 on October 20. Ever since then, both the games have received critical acclaim.

Both these games have been nominated for the Golden Joystick Awards with Spider-Man 2 being nominated for Ultimate Game of the Year, Best Lead Performer, and Best Supporting Performer. Spider-Man 2 was nominated at other award functions too, and even won GOTY at the annual PlayStation blog awards.

On the other hand, Starfield was nominated for Ultimate Game of the Year, Best Supporting Performer, Best Visual Design, Best Audio, and Xbox Game of the Year. Out of the Golden Joystick Awards, only Starfield took one win home by being the Xbox Game of the Year. Another award that Starfield won was the Steam Awards for Most Innovative Gameplay.

The DICE awards will take place on February 15th and we’ll find out which game will take home more awards then.
