“Truly Disgraceful and Shameful”- Alan Wake 2 Devs Comments on Recent Insomniac Games Ransomware Hack

Remedy Entertainment has just dropped a message for Insomniac Games and the gamers. Following the unfortunate leak Insomniac Games were subjected to, the community has been debating over the rising concerns game developers face as a result of such incidents. While this is the biggest cyber attack leak Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 devs ever came across, the nightmare seems to have just begun for the video game giants. However, in the hardest of times, the Alan Wake creators extended their support to Insomniac Games following the ransomware attack. 

The gaming world is no stranger to industry giants facing some leaks. But the rate at which these leaks have been happening is alarming. For any developer, being subjected to leaks around their upcoming projects is the worst that can happen. Moreover, it spoils the party not only for the devs but also for the fans. The world had hardly moved on from the episode of GTA 6 leaks when the ransomware attack on Insomniac Games stunned the world. Here’s how Remedy Entertainment reacted to the controversy.

Remedy Entertainment, the creators of the Alan Wake franchise, took to their X handle and released a statement to extend their support to their fellow makers. Their statement read, Our sympathies to Insomniac Games and all the affected team members. After all the effort and dedication they have poured into their games, they didn’t deserve this. No one does. The hackers also leaked employee’s personal information, which is truly disgraceful and shameful.”

Quite evidently, the Alan Wake developers were furious with the leak episode. Further, Remedy emphasized the seriousness of the issue with the fact that the leaks also included a lot of personal data of employees.

The Rhysida group had initially released some proof as confirmation of breaching the site. These proofs included screenshots of employee data, passport scans, signed confidential documents, and internal emails. One of these scans had passport scans of the Peter Parker actor in the Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man, Yuri Lowenthal. 

Recent Developments in the ransomware attack case 

Following the shocking claim of breaching Insomniac Games’ web space, the cybercrime organization threatened to auction all the hacked data in a week. Considering the fact that these leaks included a lot of information on future Insomniac Games’ projects, including Marvel’s Wolverine, the cyber attack became an unimaginable nightmare for the devs. But that wasn’t all.

Now, in a recent upload to their darknet site, Rhysidia has uploaded around 1.67 terabytes of company data, including 1.3 million files. What’s even worse is the fact that these new leaks contain plenty of videos from the upcoming project, Marvel’s Wolverine. According to the organization’s claims, 98 percent of data has been uploaded for data hunters, which went unsold from the ongoing auctions.

From GTA 6 to Insomniac Games, the hackers haven’t spared the biggest names in the industry. But fans are glad to see other fellow developers coming along and standing against the big evil of gaming. It’s always good to see the industry stand together in the face of such unfortunate events.
