The most watched YouTube trailer within 24 hours of release is that of the Marvel movie Spider-Man: No Way Home. When it was released by Marvel in 2021, fans lost their minds. So much so that they made it reach the number one spot in under 24 hours. It amassed a whopping 355 million views in a single day. Now, it seems like another trailer has the potential to finally surpass Spider-Man and set a new benchmark – GTA 6.

The next GTA from Rockstar Games has successfully created an unmatched buzz online. After a decade-long wait, Rockstar Games was forced to release its trailer for GTA 6 today, a day before the scheduled release, because of an unceremonious leak by an unidentified source. Whatever fanfare had been planned had to be let go of, we guess, as Rockstar acknowledged the situation with a sobering message on X that said, “Our trailer has leaked, so please watch the real thing.” But the question remains – Will it become the most-watched trailer in the history of YouTube within 24 hours of release?

All it took was a casual post on X from Rockstar Games with a link to the trailer on YouTube, and at the time of writing, the trailer has already got more than 32 million views, and it is not even 5 hours since the trailer’s release.

Right now, Spider-Man: No Way Home holds the record of having over 350 million views for any trailer on the streaming platform in the first 24 hours. Now, given the fact that GTA 6 has everything going in its favor right now, the video game can end up leaving No Way Home in the dust with 400 million views in 24 hours. This is very much possible due to the ongoing hype and immense passion among gaming enthusiasts. Also, it will be the first time a video game will set this kind of benchmark – if it eventually manages to do the unthinkable.

To have better clarity, below is the list of the top 10 most watched trailers on YouTube within 24 hours of their release:

  1. Spider-Man: No Way Home (teaser trailer) – 355.5 million views
  2. Avengers: Endgame (teaser trailer) – 289 million views
  3. Avengers: Endgame (official trailer) – 268 million views
  4. The Lord of the Rings: The Ring of Power (teaser trailer) – 257 million views
  5. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (teaser trailer) – 238 million views
  6. Avengers: Infinity War (teaser trailer) – 230 million views
  7. The Lion King Remake (teaser trailer) – 224.6 million views
  8. Thor: Love and Thunder (teaser trailer) – 209 million views
  9. It (teaser trailer) – 197 million views
  10. Avengers: Infinity War (official trailer) – 179 million views

The aforementioned stats are based on the report from IMDb website as of 2023.

What to expect from the full game and how are fans reacting to the trailer?

The 90-second trailer introduces fans to the new characters of Jason and Lucia as we head back to the iconic Vice City and the greater Florida area, where all the action happens.

Incidentally, Lucia is the first female lead character in the GTA series. Moreover, several reports have also claimed that the open-world AAA title will feature insane graphical improvements. For example, it’s said to have a dynamic weather system and new ways of interacting with in-game environments and NPCs.

Judging by the comments on the trailer, most fans seem to be relishing this trip down memory lane and are looking forward to ending their 10-year wait. It may be noted here that the first GTA game was released in 1997 for MS-DOS systems and Windows PCs.

The trailer shows that GTA VI will be released in 2025. If the cutscenes and the response so far are anything to go by, fans are in for a mouth-watering delight of a game.
