After Honkai Impact 3rd, an action RPG that has attained immense popularity across all platforms, MiHoyo is here with yet another hit. Genshin Impact received a huge reception following its launch, both on Twitch and various app stores. The game is currently the second top-grossing iOS app in China, following the Chinese version of Tik-Tok. Analytics firm Qimai Data has estimated that the game will have made $1.84 million on iOS by now.

In fact, the game saw the biggest international launch for a Chinese game. Genshin Impact had garnered over 110,000 views on Twitch just hours after its launch on the 28th of September, according to a report in the South China Morning Post. The sheer numbers speak for the popularity of this free-to-play action RPG, surpassing even Fortnite at the time.

Chief executive of game industry consultancy Kantan Games Inc says this game has had a bigger international impact than any other Chinese game.

“I don’t think any Chinese-made game has ever had that many pre-registrations outside its home market. So just by the scale of people interested early on, Genshin Impact is a big title already.”

Genshin Impact is already a banger, and not just in China

MiHoyo’s track record does not feature many misses. The game has already had 5.3 million international pre-orders from the website, and around 16 million pre-orders from China. The previous titles from the company boast of 40 million worldwide downloads and has had earnings of $760 million from in-game expenditures.

Surely, the monetary expectations will be pretty high for this title too. Co-founder Liu Wei tells South China Morning Post that the development and marketing budget of the title was over $100 million.

With such a huge start, it looks like Genshin Impact could go on to grow even bigger. The game did face a little setback regarding its anti-cheat system right after its launch. However, devs quickly addressed it the following day.
