PGA Tour’s 2022 is off to a great start with the Sentry Tournament of Champions and the Sony Open, both in Hawaii. However, after days in Hawaii, the tour will move to California for the American Express event. With Patrick Cantlay and Jon Rahm among those playing, fans remain excited for another fun tournament the PGA Tour has to offer.

A completely different vibe from the events in Hawaii, the American Express will be held at the La Quinta Country Club in California, USA. A simple venue change often affects the vibe of the tournament, some courses easier and some more challenging. The La Quinta Country Club comes with decades worth of history and is surely going to be a fun challenge for golfers present.

The venue has been visited by legends like Arnold Palmer and Frank Sinatra, along with Dean Martin, President Gerald Ford, and Bob Hope, to name a few others. Players have described it as one of the best courses they play on in a year, that is up there with courses like Augusta National for golfers like Rahm.

What challenges can one face at the La Quinta Country Club?

According to their official website, the course at the La Quinta Country Club is described as a “typical desert course”. It is a tighter course to play, complete with trees and bunkers. However, with some proper course management, everyone from a professional to an amateur can savor the course.

That being said, it seems like a favorable course overall, suiting everyone’s difficulty level accordingly.

Particularly demanding holes at the La Quinta Country Club

The course opens with a par-four hole, which has bunkers on the fairway’s sides. It provides a choice, which might set the tone for the remainder of the play. The second hole can be a tad bit more difficult, especially as one requires an extremely precise tee shot. Most holes provide players an ample opportunity for birdies, that is if one remains sharp and makes precise shorts.

Hole 7, with a bunker on the left side, also needs a good shot for one to be able to score. Most of the holes are structured in this way, letting people score well and go home with a good day of golf, provided they stick to plan and follow a precise pattern of shooting. With countless bunkers littered across the course, scoring is all a matter of precision.
