The weather plays an important role in all sports played outdoors. Golf is no exception. In fact, when it comes to golf, a slight change in weather could have significant effects on the gameplay, due to wind changes, wet greens, etc. The LPGA Tour Championship is currently ongoing, and the weather for the final round isn’t all that bright.

The final round will see cloudy skies

The LPGA final event of the year is currently underway at Tiburón Golf Club, Gold Course, in Naples, Florida. The final round of the final event begins tomorrow. But it may not be blue skies all the way. Quite literally. As per accuweather.com, Naples’ weather will be “breezy and not as warm with periods of rain and a thunderstorm.”

This does not sound good, especially for the 60 players competing for the total $7 million purse. The day sees a 94% chance of precipitation along with a 28% chance of a thunderstorm. The wind gusts are consistent throughout the day, at 11 to 12 mph.

The day in Naples will certainly be cloudy, and has a cloud coverage of about 97% throughout the day. The precipitation is expected to be moderate, with about 6.6 mm, but could still be a problem if the greens and fairways begin to hold water. This could causing the game to be called off for a while.

Lydia Ko takes the lead at the LPGA Tour Championship

The LPGA CME Group Tour Championship started this week, on the 17th, and Lydia Ko started with a bogey. Despite her poor start, Ko went on to end the round at the top. She made birdies at holes 5, 6, and 7, and didn’t stop there. From holes 14 to 17, she putted all birdies, leaving her at 7 under par. She ended her first round on Thursday with a total score of 65.

Lydia didn’t back down in the second round either, finishing with a bogey-free round and birdies on six of the holes. Ko ended the round with a score of 66. Her one-stroke lead from the day before had grown to five strokes.
