The 2022 Open Championship is halfway through its completion after the second round ended on Friday. With the OWGR top players making the cut at the home of golf, the competition to win the Claret Jug will be fierce. Before one of them wins the title, let’s find out what the tournament is offering its 150th champion to take home.

The total purse of the 72-hole tournament is $14 million. Notably, the purse has been increased by a 22% from what the R&A offered in 2021. It is also the highest amount of prize money the Open has ever provided in the last 149 times.

The purse money is distributed among all the golfers who advanced to the final rounds. However, unlike the other majors, the R&A offers extra prize money who didn’t make the cut. The top 10 golfers will get $10,500, whereas the next 20 will get $8,500. Moreover, the rest of the professional golfers will be offered $7,000 for participating in the Open.

The winner’s payout and extra benefits

The winner will receive $2,500,00 from the total purse. Moreover, he will also get the original Claret Jug, which will be replaced by a replica after a year, and a gold medal

Like every major championship, the British Open also offers 100 OWGR points to the winner. He will also receive 600 FedEx Cup points, regardless of field strength. Being a winner of the Open Championship is equal to winning a jackpot in golf, as the benefits don’t end here.
