The DP Tour returns to Thailand this week with the 2023 Thailand Classic after a hiatus of seven long years. A lot of water has been flown under the bridge since, but the arrival of the country’s premier golf competition should come as an esteem. But which players will be vying to earn their ranks from a purse pool worth $2 million?
Player to look forward to at the Thailand Classic
In a note of disappointment, none of the top 50 players will make the trip down to the Southeast country this weekend. Yet, there are hosts of familiar foes who’ll look to pounce on the rare opportunity.

Among those with recent form under their belt, Finnish golfer, Sami Valimaki, fell just short of his first victory of the season. He finished runner-up to Ockie Strydom at the Singapore Classic last week.
There are also tour winners who could stand a chance at the Thailand Classic. Victor amongst a star-studded roster in the 2022 Italian Open, Robert MacIntyre will be at the top of the betting charts this weekend. The Scottish golfer’s win at the Italian Open was special considering the course is set to host the prestigious Ryder Cup this year.

There will be a handful of players who competed in last month’s Hero Cup. The likes of Ewen Ferguson and Jordan Smith, who played on the teams for Great Britain and Ireland respectively, participate this weekend. The victorious Continental Europe team will be represented by Italian and French golfers Guido Migliozzi and Antoine Rozner, respectively.
Apart from the European players, local favorite, Kiradech Aphibarnrat, will be eyeing a victory parade on Sunday. A four-time DP Tour winner, the Thai golfer is set to receive the biggest roar from the fans on the tee.

Another home player to compete at the tournament is veteran golfer Thongchai Jaidee. The 53-year-old’s last victory came at the 2016 Open de France at the iconic Le Golf National. The return of the tour in his home country might have given him the chance for his final hurrah.
Prize money breakdown at the 2023 Thailand Classic
The total purse for the event is set at $2 million, with the winner earning $340,000. The runner-up will also be claiming a handy $220,000. The purse remains the same as last week’s DP Tour event, the Singapore Classic.
