Rio Takeda

At the top of the list is the Japanese professional who has already impressed with her consistent performance. Rio Takeda started the year with an 8th place at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, and soon after, she won her second title at the LPGA Tour, which was the Blue Bay LPGA. Apart from the win, she has four top-10 finishes and just one missed cut. Interestingly, the 22-year-old has recorded a 5th-place and a tied 8th-place finish in the past two participations. Takeda had consistently maintained a below-par score in all 8 rounds while adding approximately $200,000 to the bank account.

Charley Hull

Even before the event picks began, Charley Hull had joined the list of favorites. Famous for her smoking habits, she has now made peace with quitting forever. Her decision not just left a wave of joy but has also begun speculation on her performance. Even though she has had decent finishes, the expectations are even higher now. The 29-year-old English professional has 5 participations till now in 2025, out of which she has one top-5, one top-15, and one top-20 place finish. Notably, her T40 place at the Black Desert Championship showcased her consistency as she maintained 70 for all four rounds. If not better than not worse as well, that’s what the world No. 15 has worked on.

The 25-year-old South Korean has managed to make the cut in 7 out of 8 participations. Her lowest finish this season was T33, which shares a great tale about her performance. Carlota Ciganda

Joining the list and roster as the past champion in Mexico is the Spanish professional, Carlota Ciganda. In 2016, she won the Lorena Ochoa Match Play event, beating five runner-ups by 2 strokes. Being the past winner adds an advantage for her, but that is not all. The 34-year-old has been continuing to showcase her dominance on the course. Until now, with 6 performances, she has achieved two top-10 and two top-20 place finishes. Notably, at the last Mizuho American Open, she recorded a T3 finish with a 12-under 276 score.

Somi Lee

Another South Korean professional, Somi Lee, is in a strong position to contend for the Riviera Maya Open. The 26-year-old has shown an impressive performance in 2025. She has not just made cuts in every event this season, but has also recorded decent finishes. The lowest place this season for her was at the Honda LPGA Thailand, where she was placed T41. If we take a recap of her performance, Lee has two top-15 and four top-30 finishes until now. And with her participation on Mexican soil, it might be her first win of the season.

With the golfers in substantial form and the LPGA making a comeback in Mexico, a pure golfing delight is on its way for the fans. Well, not just these five, but rookies, amateurs, and regional top golfers will make the four rounds adrenaline-filled. Though the majority is going with the five listed above.
