Following the complicated Phil Mickelson controversy, many believed the Saudi Golf League (or the LIV Golf Invitational Series) to be gone. Many players spoke for the PGA Tour, making it seem as if the rival league was no longer trying. However, considering some latest reports, the Saudi Golf League is here to stay.

According to recent reports, PGA Tour stars like Bubba Watson will be joining the Saudi Golf League.

Of course, a few other names were also mentioned. With the league offering big money and new events, there has been a constant buzz about players considering a switch. Furthermore, Mickelson, before the controversy, was said to be their poster boy. Unfortunately for the veteran, things took an unexpected turn.

Which PGA Tour star is headed to the Saudi Golf League?

Apart from Watson, Kevin Na is also a prominent golf personality looking for a switch. Additionally, European Tour icons like Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter also seem to have made their decisions. That being said, the recently launched LIV Golf Invitational Series is also gearing up to announce a few names.

Greg Norman, the CEO of the league, has been confident about their plan. The league is worth $225 and seems ready to do its best to rival the PGA Tour. “We’ve respected the Masters and let it go off, but now our journey is finally coming to fruition —for the players, not for me,” Norman said. “Their rightful place to have what they want. That’s why they are still very, very, very interested”.

He added that irrespective of what is going on, LIV Golf does have players signed and ready to play. Norman revealed that players who have won major titles have spoken with him recently and are interested in playing in the league.

How much will the Saudi League pay?

Of course, a purse of $25 million is not a small deal and will make LIV Golf an expensive and big event in Europe. Norman mentioned that the first prize will be worth $4 million, and he hopes someone ranked 350th ends up winning.
In the end, Norman even spoke about Mickelson a bit. Before the latter’s comments were shared, he, along with stars like Bryson DeChambeau, were headed to play for the Saudi League.
