5 Golfers Who Made More PIP Money Than On-course Earnings This Season

The Player Impact Program is the way the PGA Tour compensates its players who create the most positive interest in the PGA Tour. It is the tour’s way of showing appreciation to its golfers. 23 players received a cut of the total of $100 million in the pool, with Tiger Woods taking the biggest chunk at $15 million and Rory coming in a close second with $12 million. Some golfers also earned more through the program than they did by playing on the course.

The PIP pool for the season was supposed to be $50 million, but this was soon doubled to compete with the bonuses LIV Golf was giving out. The least a player received was $2 million. The bonus is awarded based on the number of points earned in various categories, such as social media mentions and TV exposure.

Although Woods and Rory took home a combined $27 million from the pool, many other PGA stars received hefty bonuses also. Despite the majority of the golfers who received a PIP bonus having a magnificent 2021–2022 season, many of them earned more through the program.

Given the large sums of money awarded by the program, it was not very surprising. And the players certainly had no complaints, especially since many of them almost doubled their earnings.

PGA Tour golfers who made more money off the course

Jordan Spieth placed third in the PIP list and received a total of $9 million. He had six top-ten finishes on the Tour in the season, won one event, and received a total of $5,018,444 from his winnings on the course.

Another popular name is Justin Thompson, who placed fourth in the PIP standings and received a $7.5 million bonus. The American came within a whisker of exceeding his bonus. With one major win and 10 top-ten finishes, Thompson won $6,829,576 on the Tour.

Jon Rahm placed fifth in the PIP rankings and was rewarded with $6 million for it. His PGA Tour earnings for the season weren’t far behind either. He had one first-place finish and eight top-ten finishes, and he took home $5,248,220.

Rickie Fowler received a $2 million bonus for placing 15th on the PIP leaderboard. He welcomed the bonus after having won $1,072,929 with only a single top-10 finish on the PGA Tour this season, where he placed 3rd in the CJ Cup.

Another player who received $2 million as his PIP incentive was Jason Day. He placed 18th in the standings. Day saw two top-ten finishes during the season and took home $1,086,460.
