72-Time LPGA Winner Annika Sorenstam Gives a Simple Yet Million-Dollar Golf Tip

One of the sport’s greatest-ever players, Annika Sorenstam was a surreal winner in women’s golf. The Swedish player has won 72 official LPGA tournaments, including a whopping ten major championships. While she has stepped away from the game, her immense knowledge of the sport has made her a genius on television broadcasts. Indeed, Sorenstam recently posted a brief clip on how to generate more power in a golf swing, which is a must-watch for golf enthusiasts!

Annika Sorenstam gives tips for generating swing power

Through a video she posted on her Instagram account, Sorenstam gave a brief idea of how a golfer could generate more power in their swing. In her own words, a shift of weight through the rotation of legs was the trick behind the power generation.

“The basic fundamental theory in a golf swing to generate power… is to shift the weight over to your right side,” she said in her own video, before emphasizing the rotation through the legs. She also pointed out how golfers tend to move sideways on their swings, for which she had a ready-made, simple solution to fix the issue.

In her video, Sorenstam proceeded to lay a spare golf club at the heels of her right leg. “That helps you brace the knee, brace your hip,” she said on the position. The former golfer then hit a lovely shot with the position to demonstrate the fix.

How does Annika Sorenstam’s legacy stack up in golf’s history?

Having turned professional in 1992, Sorenstam quickly made heads turn with her talent at the LET (Ladies European Tour) events. In 1994, she was named LPGA Rookie of the Year. One year later, she secured her inaugural victory on the tour at the prestigious US Women’s Open.

The 1990s were a glorious period for Sorenstam’s trophy-laden career. At the start of the new millennium, she became the first international player to be inducted into the Hall of Fame through the LPGA criteria.

Even in her last few years on the tour, Sorenstam was at her best. In the 2003 season, victories in the LPGA Championship and the Women’s British Open meant she secured an LPGA Career Grand Slam.
