World No. 3 Rory McIlroy has been in a stellar form of late. Just days after finishing solo second in the US Open, the Northern Irish golfer recorded another top-10 finish at the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut.

These accomplishments have also helped the 34-year-old record yet another unique career milestone. However, it has also made glaringly obvious the gap that exists between McIlroy and fellow compatriot and legend Tiger Woods. Let’s dive in to find out more!

Rory McIlroy ushers in new career milestone

Rory McIlroy may have failed to get his 24th PGA Tour win or end his major drought, but his current blistering form has greatly boosted his career earnings. Earlier, at the Los Angeles Country Club, McIlroy had pocketed an incredible $2,160,000 for his impressive outing. His T7 finish at the Travelers Championship on Sunday added $650,000 more to his winnings.

Currently, McIlroy’s overall PGA Tour earnings stand at $75,819,307. He is also just the fourth player to have passed the $75 million mark, edging past former World No. 1 Dustin Johnson to be third on the all-time list. McIlroy’s stunning feat is yet another example of his consistent form since he joined the big Tour in 2010.

Johnson, meanwhile, can earn PGA Tour earnings only by appearing at major events. The 39-year-old had defected to LIV last year for a reported $125 million.

While McIlroy still has plenty of golfing achievements left in him, it will be long before the golfer catches up with Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods in career earnings. 53-year-old Mickelson, who won 45 times on the PGA Tour before switching to LIV Golf, stands at $96,572,310. Woods, however, is way ahead of fellow golfers at $120,895,206!

Tiger Woods’ career earnings far surpass those of his PGA Tour compatriots

Tiger Woods may be well past his prime, but it will be years (maybe, even decades) before any golfer catches up with some of his near-unsurpassable feats. One of Woods’ many accomplishments is the mind-boggling amount of wealth he has generated over the years, thanks to his sheer dominance on the greens.

Since turning professional at the age of twenty, the 47-year-old has won on the PGA Tour a record 82 times! These wins, which also include 15 majors, have the golfer tied with Sam Snead for the most number of PGA Tour victories. In comparison, McIlroy ranks at the 28th position on the all-time PGAT wins list with 23 triumphs. The $45,075,899 gap between McIlroy and Woods, therefore, shouldn’t come as any surprise to the golf community.

The Player Impact Program (PIP), created by the Tour in 2021 to reward golfers who generate interest in the game, saw the golfing great earn a whopping $15 million in 2022! It goes without saying that had the initiative come out much earlier, Woods would have generated way more money from the Tour.
