Phil Mickelson, the six-time major championship winner decided to take some time off from golf after his comments on the Saudi Golf League and PGA Tour. However, he did not mention the duration of his break. It seems Mickelson’s break will continue at least till the Masters as he is not playing the event.

It is for the first time that he is not a part of the field at Augusta since 1994, where Phil has won three times in 2004, 2006, and 2010. However, not all hopes are lost for the fans.  

Is Phil Mickelson still committed to the PGA Championship?

There is a glimmer of hope that at least until now he is committed to playing at the PGA Championship 2022. Not to forget, he will be the defending champion entering the event. He won it at the age of 50.

Moreover, the event is setting a perfect stage for his return to golf being the defending champion. He had become the oldest major championship winner after winning the event last year.

Lefty broke Julius Boros’s record for becoming the oldest major winner. Boros held the feat at the age of 48. However, only time will tell whether he will withdraw from the event or whether he will stick to playing.

With Mickelson still committing to play at the event, will bring some respite to him during these chaotic times. And will even put a smile on the faces of his fans. However, it is still early to predict whether he will be a part of the event in May, but as of now, he is playing.

Mickelson’s 2021 PGA Championship win

Phil won the 2021 PGA championship at Ocean Course. He picked up his sixth major championship title at the event and won it with an overall score of six-under-par. As a result, Phil won the PGA Championship with a two-shot cushion. Phil carded a final round of one-over-par, 73.

His final round of 73 included three birdied and three bogeys in the front nine. As a result, moved out in level par, 36. He made two birdies and three bogeys on the back nine to make the turn in one-over-par, 37.
