The three starts at the PNC Championship helped Charlie Woods, son of Tiger Woods, to become popular. His father-like on-course mannerisms and golf techniques impressed every spectator in the golf community, and many want him to play professionally soon. However, do professional golfers think he is fit for their world? The 2022 FedEx Cup champion, Rory McIlroy, recently shared his opinion on it. 

“You know, Charlie is a… he is a great kid, first and foremost,” McIlroy said during an interview recently. “But, he is a great young player,” he added.

The Irishman would play with Woods in a team against Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth at Capital Ones’ The Match. The four fan-favorite golfers will compete in the exhibition series on December 10 at Pelican Golf Club in Florida. And the current world no. 1 talked about the future of the son of his teammate in golf during one of the event’s promotional interviews.

As the son of the G.O.A.T., Charlie Woods faces a lot of pressure after he chose to follow in his father’s footsteps. Ever since he attended the first PNC Championship, several spectators have been analyzing his swings and other approaches in the game.

While a fair share of people want him to turn professional as he reaches 18, some don’t think he has the potential to become a Tour player. Amidst all these ongoing debates, McIlroy gave his verdict on young Woods and his possible career in professional golfing.

“I think we’re all excited to sort of follow his progress and see how far he can go.” Although his response was vague, the 4-time major champion believes that the 13-year-old has been improving his skills, and only time can tell whether he can make a career out of it.

Notably, Charlie Woods has also been participating in several junior events and made six cuts out of the eight events he ever played.

Tiger Woods, who has won 100+ titles worldwide, recently revealed that he had advised his son to copy McIlroy’s swings instead of his. When asked about the same, McIlroy explained how he thought he was over the moon after hearing it from the golfer he admired the most. “It’s unbelievably flattering,” he told the interviewer.
