Nelly Korda’s performance at the Maybank Championship has left her fans unsated. The player returned to the greens after a three-week hiatus after the Solheim Cup. After her break, fans expected a stronger comeback from the player as her year on the course has been rather rough. But the fans were left disappointed. 

The new Rolex women’s rankings are out, and after a failed comeback, Korda’s position on the chart has come as a new blow to the golfer and the golfing community. Here’s the full scoop.

Nelly Korda participated in the LPGA Maybank Championship in Malaysia last week. Prior to the Maybank Championship, Korda played at the BMW Ladies Championship, where she finished in the top 20. 

Korda hasn’t scored any wins on the LPGA Tour this year. At the Maybank Championship, the golfer finished in the T6 position on the leaderboard alongside Gemma Dryburgh and Brooke Henderson.

As the results are all out now, the world women’s leaderboard rankings have changed. Korda, who earlier sat in the 4th position worldwide, has gone down to 6 (-2). Minjee Lee, the BMW Ladies champion, now occupies the 4th spot.

Korda has played a total of 34 events this year, out of which the 12 played under LPGA have been winless. Her current average points on the world ranking leaderboard is 6.95.

After her break, Nelly Korda started with high hopes. At the Maybank Championship, the golfer finished her first and second rounds at 69, falling short by a few strokes. Her third and fourth rounds improved with 67 and 66 respectively. Overall, she ended the tournament at -17, four strokes behind the co-leaders.

Irrespective of the win, Korda made a bag of $87,097 for her T6 finish. The golfer had high hopes for her form at the Kuala Lumpur Country Club in Malaysia, and she had also expressed her desire to secure her first victory for the LPGA 2023 season prior to the game.

Now, Korda’s next feat is the CME Group Tour Championship in Florida in November. If she doesn’t win any of the remaining events, it will be her first trophy-free season since her rookie year.
